TIPTREE UTD 1, HARLOW TOWN 1 Pre-season Friendly 21-7-07

KENNY Davis shone as Harlow Town made a steady start to their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw at Chapel Road on Saturday.
The midfielder equalized for the Hawks in the first half against Tiptree United, before playing the last half-hour of the game up front, as manager Ryan Kirby tested his attacking options.
With Dean Williams on holiday, teenager Danny Green started alongside James Bunn in attack, while former Bishop’s Stortford midfielder Jordan Fowler was given a place in the starting line-up.
The first opportunity for goal fell to Tiptree on three minutes when Gary Hill headed just wide from Lee Owen’s cross.
Clark Akers played Green into space two minutes later, but defender Neil Shade recovered well to thwart the attacker, before Green nodded Fowler’s cross over the bar on 11 minutes.
A left-footed effort from Davis on 17 minutes proved a comfortable stop for Tiptree’s under-18 keeper Matt Belcher, who started between the sticks as United’s third-choice keeper.
A dipping strike from John Curtis two minutes later hit Hawks keeper James Hasell’s right-hand post, before the hosts took the lead on 23 minutes.
Craig Hutley fed attacker Gary Hill, who rode two challenges from the defending Hawks before slotting easily past Hasell into the bottom corner of the net.
It took Ryan Kirby’s men only 10 minutes to find an equalizer as James Bunn squared to Davis, who drove the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the area on 33 minutes, as cries of an alleged handball against Danny Green in the build-up were ignored by referee Carl Fitch.
Stopper Hasell then had to stretch to stop John Curtis from finding the net at the other end five minutes from the interval.
Davis should have made it two on 50 minutes, but he volleyed Leon Lalite’s free kick just wide of the near post from point blank range.
Tiptree keeper Belcher caught Jordan Fowler’s 18-yard shot four minutes later after some good build-up play by Lalite and Hawks trialist George Chanda, who came on as a substitute at the start of the second half.
Fellow newcomer Leon Antoine was introduced on the hour mark, forming a new front pairing with Davis, who pushed forward from his previous midfield position.
Antoine tested keeper Belcher 20 minutes from time after demonstrating sound ball skills, but the strike proved easy nonetheless for the stopper.
Davis again went close on 82 minutes. Lalite provided an in-swinging cross for Davis to latch onto inside the six yard box, but Belcher was well positioned to block the Hawks player’s volley.
Tiptree substitute Luke Hughes caused Harlow problems in the latter stages, but both times was denied by keeper Hasell.
On 84 minutes, Hughes hit a crisp strike from outside the area forcing Hasell to backpedal and parry over the crossbar, before his low curling shot forced the keeper to save low to his left three minutes later.
Hawks debutant Angelo Wallace went clear of the defence in stoppage time, but dragged a low shot past the far post.
